Our campsite is part of the Kratzmühle holiday centre and is located directly on the idyllic Altmühl with its own shoreline for fishing.

Relax at the lake

There is also a large bathing lake only a few minutes walk away. With around 2 km of shoreline, perfectly suited to sunbathing, swimming and rowing. There is also a crazy golf course, the Technical Museum Kratzmühle “anno dazumal” an idyllic restaurant at the edge of the lake and the rustic pub “Zur Kratzmühle”

Climbing

For decades, Altmühltal National Park has been one of the most significant climbing areas in Germany: after all the Frankenjura rock mass offers optimum conditions and many different options for climbing all year round. Whatever sort of climber you are, you will find exactly what you are looking for here, and not just outside but also indoors. The Altmühler Abenteuerpark, an adventure and forest high ropes course offers safe enjoyment with an adrenaline rush.

Hiking and Cycling

Our region is very popular with hikers and cyclists – and there are good reasons for this! Away from the main roads, you can find amongst others, one of the “Top Trails of Germany” the Altmühltal Panorama Path, along with many other unspoilt circular trails and hiking trails which have been quality checked.The perfect cycle paths that run through stunning country side make Altmühltal National Park a paradise for cyclists. Cycle in the valley on the excellent Altmühltal cycle path or on the Jurahöhen, all cyclists can find their perfect route here.

Boating expeditions

Boating expeditions on the Altmühl is a fun leisure pursuit for the whole family. 154 km on the gentle meandering Altmühl. Nature at its best awaits the boater.

Beilngries/Kinding

The small romantic town of Beilngries is only 5km away and easy to get to on the cycle path. There are cultural, culinary and sporting highlights on offer the whole year round. Numerous festivals, concerts at the castle, museums, a high ropes course, an indoor climbing centre and a golf course provide eventful care free holiday. Shopping facilities and restaurants can be found in Beilngries and also in nearby Kinding.

Altmühltal National Park unique and well worth a visit

Altmühltal National Park is located in the heart of Bayern and is a holiday resort with many different aspects- nature, culture, culinary and leisure activities with no limits! The distinctive appearance of the region and the many splendid landscapes were formed by the long-term acts of primal elemental forces. Many of Bayern’s most beautiful geotopes can be found here in Altmühltal National Park: for example, the Twelve Apostles or the “Weltenburger Enge”

Dinosaur park / Fossils

IIn the new Dinosaur open-air museum, you can experience a journey to the prehistoric giants. Using the accessible path, you can marvel at over 70 life size exhibits and experience over 230 million years of the earth’s history. Along the way, you will learn how fossils are created.

Immerse yourself in the miracle world of fossils with a visit to one of the museums in the Altmühltal National Park, and marvel at the original fossils from the Jurassic period with more than 800 different types of animals and plants.

If you want to try your hand as an explorer, take a hammer and chisel and go on the hunt for fossils in five quarries and assembly points and take your prehistoric souvenir home with you.

Diverse culture

The many romantic towns, villages and markets that Altmühltal has to offer are especially appealing with their cosy inns and pubs. You could also witness history with the various museums in the area and go in search of the Celts, Romans and knights. Some of the highlights in the area are: Limes (former Roman boundaries) (Unesco World Heritage site) the Kelten-Römer (Celts and Romans) Museum in Manching, and the prehistoric and early historic exhibitions in the Eichstätter Willibaldsburg castle with the “primal bird” the Archaeopteryx. There are also many splendid castles, stately homes and abbeys along the Altmühl which are worth a visit.
